Expert Answers to Your AC & Air Conditioning Questions

There’s nothing like walking into a cool home or business on a hot summer’s day! Cooling systems, such as air conditioners, make that comfort possible! Many homeowners aren’t particularly familiar with these systems, so the pros at AccuTemp Refrigeration are here to answer your most common AC & air conditioning questions! Air Conditioning Questions: How Does My AC Work? Air conditioners work to cool a home using refrigerant that absorbs and discharges heat. Here are the steps an AC takes to cool your home. Warm air from you home moves across the air conditioner’s evaporator coils. The refrigerant within the coils absorbs the air’s heat. Refrigerant converts from cool liquid to hot vapor, cooling the air. The vapor travels to the compressor located in the outdoor air conditioner unit. The refrigerant vapor is compressed here, raising temperature and pressure. Refrigerant travels to the condenser where it is condensed into a liquid form again. This causes heat to release, and heat dissipates to the outdoors through the exterior unit’s fins. The refrigerant is now cooled and in a liquid state. It cycles back to the indoor unit, regulated by the expansion device, so the cooling process can continue. AC Questions: What Are…read more →

Benefits of Quality HVAC System Installation

Installing a new HVAC system for your home offers many advantages. You’ll gain improved energy efficiency, fewer repairs, better indoor comfort, and a longer service life. Quality installation for your new HVAC system is critical for making sure you gain these benefits – a botched installation can leave you feeling uncomfortable and with many problems to correct. Why is Quality HVAC Installation Important? When selecting a new HVAC system, features are important – capacity, efficiency, convenience. The truth is, these features will not do you the good you expect if the heating or cooling system is not installed properly. Proper HVAC installation allows a new heating or cooling system to function as expected and perform to the levels stated. Here’s how proper installation will improve your new system experience: Energy Efficiency If a new heating or cooling system is not installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications, it will not perform properly. When the system isn’t performing as expected, efficiency levels are impacted. While you purchased your new system based on the high SEER, HSPF, AFUE, and/or EER ratings, the system will not be offering such efficiency when it is not installed properly. The additional investment you made in a higher efficiency unit will…read more →

Thermostat Not Working?

In our homes and businesses, we control our air conditioning systems with a thermostat. It’s a modern word based on two ancient Greek ones: thermo (meaning heat) and statos (which means standing and is related to words like stasis, status quo, and static—meaning to stay the same). When our home is too hot, the thermostat switches on the air conditioning so things quickly cool down; once the temperature reaches the level we’ve set, the thermostat switches the AC off so we don’t freeze. When your air conditioner thermostat is not working the temperature is not staying at the level you have selected. Thermostat not working? Consider the following: The thermostat is a critical piece of technology in any home or business, especially in the Phoenix summer. An improperly working thermostat may cause a room to be too warm or too cold. If it is too warm then people will be uncomfortable and possibly sweaty. This may cause guests or customers to leave and will make family members and co-workers short-fused. If the AC is running too cold then you are wasting power and money. Problem #1: Thermostat is Placed in Direct Sunlight Is your home cooling all summer long? You…read more →

How Does a Thermostat Work?

The thermostat on your air conditioning/heating system is the most obvious part of your system. It is probably located in the hallway of your home or some other central area. Homes with multiple systems often have more than one. What Is A Temperature Differential? Did you know that most thermostats have a temperature differential of plus or minus 2 degrees? In other words, most systems will not turn on until the temperature is within 2 degrees of the set point. For example, if your heating system is set for 72 degrees, most systems will not turn on until the indoor temperature is 70 degrees. This prevents the unit from turning on and off all the time for short periods of time. The majority of electricity used by your system is when it turns on, therefore, if your unit is turning on and off all the time, your utility bills will increase. It also creates unnecessary wear and tear on your system. It is important to keep this in mind when reading your thermostat and wondering when the equipment is going to start to run again or shut down. You may want to set it a few degrees cooler or warmer…read more →
