Winter HVAC Maintenance Tips for Phoenix

The thermostat has finally dipped and is holding. We made it through yet another Valley of the Sun summer in Phoenix. While for us, your AccuTemp Team, this is a bittersweet moment, we know this is the time of year we remember why we live here. Can’t shovel sunshine, right?  So, with that in mind, how do we prepare for the cooler temps? We have a guide for you, of course. Check these Phoenix Winter tips below to ensure your Heating is in order for the coming months.  1. Clean or Replace Air Filters Change your air filter. If you have a disposable filter, remove the old one and insert a clean replacement. If your filter is reusable, wash it according to the manufacturer’s directions and allow it to dry entirely before reinserting it into the filter compartment. 2. Inspect & Clean Air Vents Inspect all registers and return air grilles in your home to ensure there is no build-up in air vents, and they are not blocked or shut. These vents should never be blocked, as doing so will restrict airflow through your HVAC systems, which could create performance issues and system overheating. Move all carpets and rugs, furniture,…read more →

Sounds crazy, but now is the time to prep that Furnace.

Now that we are finally feeling some cooler temps, its time to make sure your furnace is ready to provide your home with ample heating performance. There are plenty of things you can do to prepare your furnace this winter: Make sure you check and change your furnace filter. This is the most important, yet most overlooked aspect of preparing your furnace for the coming winter. A clogged furnace filter can easily hamper your furnace’s overall performance and lower your home’s indoor air quality. You should always replace your old filter with a new, clean filter at the start of each season. Check and properly set your thermostat. Make sure your thermostat is able to start your furnace without any issues. If you haven’t upgraded to a programmable thermostat, now is the time to do so. With a programmable thermostat, you’ll be able to control your home’s temperature while you’re asleep or away. Check the flue for debris and other obstructions. Take a look at the flue and make sure there’s no significant soot buildup. Also be on the lookout for leaves, birds’ nests and other debris that could cause a fire hazard while your furnace is in operation. Inspect and clean the…read more →

Fun Facts & 10 Products You’re Likely Using Wrong

Many people see product labels as an afterthought, if they see them at all. You have used this product before, so why should you bother brushing up on the specs and directions? Well, as it turns out, there are quite a few products you might have been using wrong without ever knowing. On top of that, there might be some dire consequences. Here are a few examples from AccuTemp. 1. Aluminum Foil On either end of a box of aluminum foil, you will see perforation marks that are labeled ‘push to lock in place’, or some similar statement. This solves the problem of the foil or plastic wrap roll from shifting inside the box. In turn, this means you won’t need to fumble around to find the end of the foil. Though it might seem like a mild inconvenience at the time, the boxes for these products have sharp metal teeth that cut the wrapping material. Once you cut your finger on these, you’ll know how frustrating they can be. 2. Storing Flammable Cleaning Supplies A logo with flames followed by a number from 0-4 indicates a product’s flammability. When a product is given a three or higher on this…read more →

Wine Storage 101: 7 Basics You Need to Know

So you bought some wine that you’re not planning on drinking right away. Now what do you do with it? First off, it’s useful to remember that only a small percentage of fine wines on the market benefit from long-term aging. Most wines are best enjoyed within a few years of release. If you’re looking to buy wines to mature, you should really consider investing in professional-grade storage—a totally different ballgame.  For everyone else, however, following a few simple guidelines should keep your wines safe until you’re ready to drink them.  1. Keep It Cool Heat is enemy number one for wine. Temperatures higher than 70° F will age a wine more quickly than is usually desirable. And if it gets too much hotter, your wine may get “cooked,” resulting in flat aromas and flavors. The ideal temperature range is between 45° F and 65° F (and 55° F is often cited as close to perfect), though this isn’t an exact science. Don’t fret too much if your storage runs a couple degrees warmer, as long as you’re opening the bottles within a few years from their release. 2. But Not Too Cool Keeping wines in your household refrigerator is fine…read more →
