Fun Facts & 10 Products You’re Likely Using Wrong

Many people see product labels as an afterthought, if they see them at all. You have used this product before, so why should you bother brushing up on the specs and directions? Well, as it turns out, there are quite a few products you might have been using wrong without ever knowing. On top of that, there might be some dire consequences. Here are a few examples from AccuTemp. 1. Aluminum Foil On either end of a box of aluminum foil, you will see perforation marks that are labeled ‘push to lock in place’, or some similar statement. This solves the problem of the foil or plastic wrap roll from shifting inside the box. In turn, this means you won’t need to fumble around to find the end of the foil. Though it might seem like a mild inconvenience at the time, the boxes for these products have sharp metal teeth that cut the wrapping material. Once you cut your finger on these, you’ll know how frustrating they can be. 2. Storing Flammable Cleaning Supplies A logo with flames followed by a number from 0-4 indicates a product’s flammability. When a product is given a three or higher on this…read more →

Wine Storage 101: 7 Basics You Need to Know

So you bought some wine that you’re not planning on drinking right away. Now what do you do with it? First off, it’s useful to remember that only a small percentage of fine wines on the market benefit from long-term aging. Most wines are best enjoyed within a few years of release. If you’re looking to buy wines to mature, you should really consider investing in professional-grade storage—a totally different ballgame.  For everyone else, however, following a few simple guidelines should keep your wines safe until you’re ready to drink them.  1. Keep It Cool Heat is enemy number one for wine. Temperatures higher than 70° F will age a wine more quickly than is usually desirable. And if it gets too much hotter, your wine may get “cooked,” resulting in flat aromas and flavors. The ideal temperature range is between 45° F and 65° F (and 55° F is often cited as close to perfect), though this isn’t an exact science. Don’t fret too much if your storage runs a couple degrees warmer, as long as you’re opening the bottles within a few years from their release. 2. But Not Too Cool Keeping wines in your household refrigerator is fine…read more →

Expert Answers to Your AC & Air Conditioning Questions

There’s nothing like walking into a cool home or business on a hot summer’s day! Cooling systems, such as air conditioners, make that comfort possible! Many homeowners aren’t particularly familiar with these systems, so the pros at AccuTemp Refrigeration are here to answer your most common AC & air conditioning questions! Air Conditioning Questions: How Does My AC Work? Air conditioners work to cool a home using refrigerant that absorbs and discharges heat. Here are the steps an AC takes to cool your home. Warm air from you home moves across the air conditioner’s evaporator coils. The refrigerant within the coils absorbs the air’s heat. Refrigerant converts from cool liquid to hot vapor, cooling the air. The vapor travels to the compressor located in the outdoor air conditioner unit. The refrigerant vapor is compressed here, raising temperature and pressure. Refrigerant travels to the condenser where it is condensed into a liquid form again. This causes heat to release, and heat dissipates to the outdoors through the exterior unit’s fins. The refrigerant is now cooled and in a liquid state. It cycles back to the indoor unit, regulated by the expansion device, so the cooling process can continue. AC Questions: What Are…read more →

Benefits of Quality HVAC System Installation

Installing a new HVAC system for your home offers many advantages. You’ll gain improved energy efficiency, fewer repairs, better indoor comfort, and a longer service life. Quality installation for your new HVAC system is critical for making sure you gain these benefits – a botched installation can leave you feeling uncomfortable and with many problems to correct. Why is Quality HVAC Installation Important? When selecting a new HVAC system, features are important – capacity, efficiency, convenience. The truth is, these features will not do you the good you expect if the heating or cooling system is not installed properly. Proper HVAC installation allows a new heating or cooling system to function as expected and perform to the levels stated. Here’s how proper installation will improve your new system experience: Energy Efficiency If a new heating or cooling system is not installed according to the manufacturer’s specifications, it will not perform properly. When the system isn’t performing as expected, efficiency levels are impacted. While you purchased your new system based on the high SEER, HSPF, AFUE, and/or EER ratings, the system will not be offering such efficiency when it is not installed properly. The additional investment you made in a higher efficiency unit will…read more →

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence, a non-for-profit organization that trains on the latest heating, cooling and air conditioning technology. It’s the only nationwide program accepted by the entire HVAC industry, including contractors and manufacturers. NATE certification proves that technicians are experts in their chosen field. This program ensures that qualified technicians have a core set of competencies and can be trusted by those who hire them. Why NATE Certification Is Important An important part of NATE membership is regular training to update HVAC skills as technology is constantly changing. NATE-certified technicians can efficiently and properly install, repair, service and replace many different types of HVAC equipment. Properly detecting and fixing problems is essential because of the nature of these mechanical systems. If equipment is not serviced or installed properly, systems may not operate properly and could expose customers to dangerous situations. Improper service and installation can not…read more →
